9 – WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? Person and Performance (2)
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal & kill & destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
There is a thief seeking to steal your joy, kill your spirit, and destroy your effectiveness.
Jesus’ plan for you is abundant life.
Jesus came to give life not law. He perfectly fulfilled the Law – I don’t have to.
Jesus didn’ t come to repair you & make you happy – he came to redeem you and make you whole. He doesn’t recycle us, reform us, refurbish us, or remodel us. He makes us a new creation.
Jesus came so we could once again stand before God naked & unashamed – just like Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:25) .
Jesus longs to have effects of sin removed & his original image restored.
We need to learn to act on the statements in our confession…
1. I am an awesome spirit being – resolve contradictory thoughts
Every negative thought can be placed under feelings, performance, others’ opinions. The good thing is we’re not confessing our feelings, performance, or others’ opinions.
2. I am deeply loved by God – love yourself enough to say “no”
Saying “no” is your stand against impossible demands.
3. I am fully pleasing to God – put performance in its place
You are not what you do. You don’t’ have to meet certain standards to feel good about yourself.
4. I am totally accepted by God – stop seeking other’s approval
5. I am absolute complete in Christ – stop trying to fill in the gaps
Jesus paid it all – it is finished – you have to add absolutely nothing.
6. I am an original – practice being you
We live out the scripts handed to us by parents, religion, society, etc. Let God write your life’s script for you.
