WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? Creation…I am an awesome spirit being of magnificent worth.
1. CREATION (Genesis 1: 26-27, 2:7)
a. God made man in his own image (imago dei = to be cut out of the same material, to bear the exact resemblance of the original). God is a spirit and he created man as a spirit being.
Psalm 8:3-5. The Psalmist says God created man a little lower than himself. The correct Hebrew word for “angels” or “heavenly beings” is Elohim. What the Psalmist is really saying is that man was created second only to God and that man is crowned with God’s own glory (Heb. hadar) and honor (Heb. kabod).
You are an awesome spirit being because you are made in the image of God and crowned with God’s own glory and honor.
b. God housed Adam in a body to accomplish the tasks given to him. Adam was made from the dust of the ground but did not become a living being until God breathed “spirit” into him. Adam wasn’t Adam until “spirit” (breath) entered his body.
c. Adam and Eve were naked and unashamed before God. Why? They were perfect spirit beings = holy, righteous, whole, complete. The had no fear, shame, or guilt – even while being naked before God!
2. CORRUPTION (Genesis 3:7-11)
It was great in the Garden of Eden. What happened? Genesis three happened. Adam and Eve disobeyed God and for the first time felt fear, shame, and guilt. The perfect spirit God gave them had now become tainted, corrupted, and marred. Their spirits died. A person with a dead spirit has no intimacy or relationship with God for it is with our spirits we relate to God. Paul says in Ephesians 2:1, “…you were dead in your trespasses and sins…”. Humankind has been living in fear, shame, and guilt ever since then.
3. CREATION PART TWO
Galatians 4:4 says that when the time was perfect, God sent his Son, Jesus into the world. @ Corinthians 5:17 says that if any man is in Christ he is a new creation. Through his work on the cross Jesus has provided a way that dead spirits can live again. Whoever embraces Christ as his or her Lord, Savior, Redeemer, Forgiver, and Restorer is a resurrected person! God restores his own glory and honor to that person.
Christ-followers are awesome spirit beings (made in God’s image and crowned with honor) of magnificent worth (because of who Jesus is and what Jesus has done for them.
To God be the glory.
